Last night, I received an email from a woman who wanted to conceive a son or boy baby. She had heard from her aunt that eating lemons, drinking lemonade, and eating lemon flavored products – yogurt, pudding, Jell-O candy, etc. would help her to conceive a male. She wanted to know if this advice was true and if it was, would other citrus fruits, like oranges, also apply? I will address this in the following article.
The reasoning behind’s the aunt’s advice is that the aunt is assuming that lemons will alkalize your body. Since being alkaline or possessing a low PH encourages the sperm chromosomes that help form males, the aunt is assuming that eating lots of these types of foods will help encourage and maintain the optimal PH.
Many people who read this are likely to think: “no, that’s wrong. Lemons and all citrus are acidic. That’s why you’re not supposed to consume too much of it and why it can erode the enamel on your teeth.” And, this is all true. On the surface citrus foods have a high PH. But, lemons are one of those foods that is initially acidic but then becomes alkaline when metabolized later on. (On a side note, this is not always going to be true. It only applies when the fruit is picked when it is ripe. If it is picked while not ripe or green and then changes once it’s in the grocery store, then the opposite would occur and it would actually be digested as acidic.) Further, this applies for many other fruits and vegetables. Examples are things like some apples, mangos and peaches.
And, there are many foods other than these that read as alkaline in your body. This is not limited to only fruits and vegetables. Nuts are also a good option too. But, because of the recent trend of fasts and cleanses, most people are more aware of the fruits.
So, I suppose the short answer to the question is that lemons can be one food that would help the writer to become more alkaline (although I would advise her to check her reading before she even starts this as it might not be necessary.) And, it would not be a good idea to consume the juice that was sweetened with sugar or the by products like yogurts or puddings. These are processed foods that should be avoided. People will also sometimes get this confused with douching, which is another method to change PH. Douching with lemon juice and water would produce an entirely different result and is likely not the best idea in this situation.
And, douching and eating are not the only things to consider with a boy conception. You also want to get your timing down. In order to encourage those male making sperm I spoke of before, you want to have intercourse on the late side of your ovulation date.
